DigiLocker: where a student’s issued documents live

DigiLocker is the Government of India’s cloud platform for storing, sharing and verifying documents and certificates, a flagship of the Ministry of Electronics & IT under Digital India. For a school it matters in one direction: documents that authorities issue to a student (the APAAR ID card among them) appear in the student’s DigiLocker “Issued documents”, where a parent or the school can see them without a paper copy.

What is DigiLocker, in one paragraph?

The official description: “a secure cloud based platform for storage, sharing and verification of documents & certificates”, a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Electronics & IT under the Digital India programme, operated by the National e-Governance Division and Digital India Corporation. As of the site’s August 2026 figures it had 70+ crore registered users and 900+ crore issued documents.

What does a school actually meet DigiLocker for?

The APAAR ID. The APAAR programme’s process ends with the ID being “pushed into student’s DigiLocker Account”, where it appears as a virtual card under Issued documents. So when a parent asks where the APAAR card is, the answer is their child’s DigiLocker, not the school office.

Issued documents are the concept to understand: an “issuer” (an authority) places a document in the citizen’s locker; a “requester” (an organisation that needs to verify it) can be given access. The public homepage does not list which education boards issue what, check the issuer list inside the app, and treat any specific claim you read elsewhere as unverified until you see it there.

Can a school become an issuer?

The site invites organisations to “Get registered as a DigiLocker Issuer or Requester!” through its partners section, but the public page does not set out prerequisites or the approval process. A school considering it should read the partners section and contact DigiLocker support; this guide will not invent the criteria.

What should the office tell parents about DigiLocker?

  1. Parents create the student’s DigiLocker account themselves; the school does not create it.
  2. After the school generates an APAAR ID through UDISE+, the virtual card appears in the student’s DigiLocker Issued documents.
  3. Documents that boards or authorities issue digitally are found under Issued documents, the school does not need to hold a paper copy to see that one exists.
  4. For login or access problems, the official support desk is support.digilocker.gov.in; the school office cannot reset a DigiLocker account.

What goes wrong, and the fix

A parent cannot find the APAAR card.

Check the UDISE+ APAAR module for generation status first; if generated, it is under Issued documents in the student’s DigiLocker, not in Uploaded documents.

Someone claims a specific certificate “is in DigiLocker” for your board.

Verify in the app’s issuer list; the public site does not publish a board-by-board list, and this guide does not assert one.

What Edutris does here, and what it does not

Does

  • Issues the school’s own certificates per student (bonafide, transfer/leaving certificate, conduct) and keeps the documents parents uploaded with the admission application, so the school’s side of the paper trail is in one place.

Does not

  • Connect to DigiLocker, issue documents into it, or read a student’s locker. Edutris is not a DigiLocker issuer or requester.

Frequently asked questions

Does the school create the student’s DigiLocker account?

No. DigiLocker accounts are the citizen’s own. The school’s only touchpoint is that the APAAR ID it generates through UDISE+ is delivered into the student’s DigiLocker as a virtual card.

What is the difference between issued and uploaded documents?

Issued documents are placed in the locker by an authority (an issuer) and are the ones that can be verified; uploaded documents are scans the user adds themselves. The APAAR card is an issued document.

Is there a helpline?

The site links a support portal at support.digilocker.gov.in and a contact page; the public homepage does not print a phone number.

Does Edutris issue TCs or certificates into DigiLocker?

No. Edutris generates the school’s certificates as documents the school issues in its own name; it has no DigiLocker integration.
